Pet ownership is a major responsibility, and Abu Dhabi is certainly on the ball when it comes to taking care of the stray canines in the emirate.
The Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) has now launched an awareness campaign in the UAE capital about safe practices for handling and managing the increasing number of stray dogs.

Apart from responsible pet ownership, the campaign aims to address the consequences of pet abandonment too, something the entire country saw in plenty around the pandemic.
You can track the campaign via DMT’s social media platforms, focused on preserving public health and safety while ensuring appropriate care for stray animals.

Dog owners are urged to keep their pets within their premises and ensure that no food waste is left around the area to avoid attracting a congregation of animals.
The DMT also highlighted that owners of farms, ranches and individuals play a crucial role in safeguarding the community and its well-being.
Additionally, sterilisation is being encouraged as an effective measure to deal with the rising number of stray dogs.
Going forward, the municipalities affiliated with the DMT will undertake the responsibility of managing stray and lost animals.
Starting 2024, these services will include the reservation and sterilisation of stray animals, providing guidance on handling them, and conducting educational and awareness campaigns for the community.
Keep those pooches safe!
